Upsetting Along with Bad Inhale

Large organ in the body can cause bad breath. Liver disease is the classic example but it is important to stress that bad breath is not the presenting feature. In other words smelly breath on its own is not indicative of a serious illness.

There are specific ways in which to treat bad breath caused by the following:

It is easy to banish early-morning bad breath by taking a drink or cleaning the teeth. Both moisten the air as we breathe out. If you are a habitual mouth-breather, concentrate on keeping your mouth closed all the time and breathing through your nose. Daily nasal washouts will clear a blocked nose caused by a cold or sinus trouble. Use tepid water and add either a sprinkling of salt or beetroot juice. Stuff this solution up the nose, hold, and then blow back out again after 30 seconds.

The only solution is to avoid those foods which are detectable on the breath. Garlic, onions and strong spices are the worst offenders and it is important to realize that nobody escapes the smelly breath they produce. Garlic is also sweated out of the body which can make the situation even worse.

Inflammation of the gums, known as gingivitis, can arise from overzealous brushing and is often associated with a low intake of vitamin C. Take one gram daily to maintain healthy gums.

To remove the sour smell of a high-acid level, cut down on white sugar, white bread and refined flour, fried foods, animal fats and alcohol. Increase your intake of salads, fresh fruit, and vegetables and eat plenty of fiber. Aim for calmer, less rushed meal times and chew your food more slowly.

Now that we know that the causes of bad breath can be removed, is there anything we can take to ensure that our breath smells sweet? It can, people come into the surgery absolutely convinced that they have smelly breath.

The mouth-freshening business is now a multimillion industry. The main ingredients are mint, the chemical play heavily on human emotions. However, as an alternative there are several herbal mixtures that give the breath a pleasant odor.

Make a cup of peppermint tea with a teabag or by infusing one teaspoon of fresh or dried leaves in a cupful of boiling water. Add a little freshly squeezed lemon juice. It’s best to drink the tea as it counteracts the acidity in the stomach, but you can also use it as a mouthwash to give the breath a pleasant minty smell.

Make an infusion of Rosemary by pouring a cupful of boiling water over a teaspoon of the crushed herb. Cover and leave to infuse for ten minutes. Then use half as a mouthwash and a drink the rest. Rosemary is also a first-class antiseptic and firming treatment for gums as well as an excellent tonic for the digestion.

Boil a sprig of thyme in a cupful of water for two to three seconds. Cover and leave to steep for ten minutes. Again, use half the mixture as a mouthwash and drink the remainder.

So, you should now be able to mix socially, confident that your breath smells, clean and sweet. But, if you must eat spicy or garlic-laden food then take pity on your friends and chew on some fresh parsley leaves, it works.
